Be aware of elder abuse

The Grey Bruce Community Care Access Centre will launch a new protocol to help police and other emergency services identify and report possible cases of elder abuse. Senior Abuse Resource Co ordinator Laura Balletta says contrary to popular belief most victims of elder abuse are mentally competent and 'with-it'. Balletta says elder abuse can take many forms not just physical. Everything from over medicating and failing to provide adequate hygeine to abuse of 'power of attorney' or verbal intimidation. The Community Care Access Centre has several programs to help seniors in Bruce and Grey counties including a 24 hour hotline, emergency intervention and accommodation. >> see all of today's news >> see the last seven days of news << back to main page .
