Be aware of elder abuse

The Grey Bruce Community Care Access Centre will launch a new protocol to help police and other emergency services identify and report possible cases of elder abuse. Senior Abuse Resource Co ordinator Laura Balletta says contrary to popular belief most victims of elder abuse are mentally competent and 'with-it'. Balletta says elder abuse can take many forms not just physical. Everything from over medicating and failing to provide adequate hygeine to abuse of 'power of attorney' or verbal intimidation.
