Social workers stand by to help stop elder abuse

Representatives from San Rafael-based Institute on Aging offer a 24-hour hotline to provide counseling and help to victims of elder abuse. According to statistics from the institute, 90 percent of all elder abuse is perpetrated by family members. Of those abusers, 50 percent are adult children. Marin County Adult Protective Services has social workers available for counseling and has a list of warning signs for elders who may be abused. The hotline number is 507-2774. .
